The holidays are meant for spending time with family and friends and enjoying good food. Unfortunately, some of the best holiday foods can threaten your dental health. Here are some foods that need to be eaten in moderation if you want to avoid staining your beautiful, healthy smile.
These foods have very dark pigment that can tarnish your teeth color:
- Cranberry Sauce- The rich pigment in this tasty sauce can do some major damage to the coloring of your teeth. In addition, this dish is very sugary so it should be eaten in moderation.
- Wine- Red wine is known for discoloring your teeth. It is also acidic and sugary, so try to limit yourself during the holidays.
- Pie- While pumpkin pie might actually be good for your dental health, all of the pies made with berries can do some damage. Too many berries can break down your enamel and color your teeth.
- Coffee- With family in town, you may find yourself drinking more coffee than normal. But, coffee is known for dulling your smile. Try to remember to swish your mouth out with water after you drink your cup of jo this season.
Even though certain foods can stain your teeth, you can still have a delicious meal while keeping your dental health in mind. After eating the foods listed above always drink plenty of water. Doing so will help wash any sugar and dark pigments off your teeth to help prevent staining.
