We’re very fortunate here in the United States to have such an amazing dental care system. With constant breakthroughs in technology, we are always on the forefront of dentistry. Oral care in other countries, however, isn’t as amazing as ours. Here are just a few examples of international dental care.
Facts about Dental Care around the World
Dental care in Ireland, for example, is suffering. Ireland is seeing a bit of an oral health crisis. The Irish Dental Association (IDA) has reported a terrifying impact following cuts in dental care state funding. The number of dental treatments patients received dropped 16% between 2013 and 2016.
On top of that, a new study shows there’s been a 38% increase in patients admitting themselves to the hospital due to severe mouth infections. It goes to show just what having a budget does for oral care in other countries.
Where’s the Worst Oral Care?
In many places, the greatest issue pertaining to oral health is the lack of resources. This seems to be the case in Asian and Latin American countries particularly. In the Philippines especially, there seems to be quite a divide in those who can get oral care and those who cannot. The Philippines is considered to be the worst in terms of dental care.
The University of The Philippines College of Dentistry claimed that almost 90% of their citizens have tooth decay in one form or another. That’s a terrifying number, especially if you consider that 100% of children have cavities.
The population of India is about tied with China for biggest populations on Earth. When you take into account that 95% of over a billion people have gum disease, and another 50% don’t use a toothbrush, it’s understandable why there is cause for alarm. Furthermore, 70% of children below 15 years of age have dental caries.
Where’s the Best Dental Care?
Where are the countries with the best dental care? In countries like the United States, Japan, and Denmark, we are all very lucky to have a good dental care system where our teeth are in good hands. It’s all thanks to our dental care system that has a good budget and many medical minds that push our industry forward.
Japan, for example, has just as many dentists as there are in the United States, having a much smaller population—that says a lot, since America, as we know, is a country with a great dental industry.
